Douglas M. Ball is a native of Central Florida. He was born in Orlando in 1951. He attended public schools in the Orlando area and graduated from Colonial High School in 1969. He received a Bachelors degree in Behavioral Science from National Louis University in Chicago and is a Graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy.
He has been married to his wife Judy for 31 years and they have two sons and one grandson. Judy also works in the Judicial field as a Judicial Assistant for a Judge in Orange County. His hobbies include fishing, hunting, scuba diving and spending his off time with his family.
Doug began his law enforcement career in 1975 as a part time officer with the Orlando Police Department and in 1976 began full time with the Winter Park Police Department as a Patrol Officer. During his tenure with Winter Park he worked in every section and unit of the Police Department. The most interesting assignment was to a Federal Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force responsible for drug enforcement on a federal level which allowed him to investigate major drug organizations operating in the U.S. and the Caribbean. He was promoted thru the ranks from Officer to Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief and in 1996 he was promoted to Chief where he remained until May of this year when he retired from Winter Park. On June 1 of 2009 he began his career with Maitland when he was appointed to be Chief of the Maitland Police Department.
During his law enforcement career he has received a number of awards and recognition for outstanding service to the community and dedication to the law enforcement profession.
He is a member of numerous professional organizations and community service clubs. These include the International Association of Police Chiefs, The FBI N.A. Association, the Florida Police Chief Association, Orange County Chiefs Association, Central Florida Criminal Justice Association, Central Florida HIDTA, MBI Governing Board, Winter Park Rotary, Knights of Columbus.
